Alleluia! Sing to Jesus

Author: William C. Dix, 1837-1898 Hymnal: CWH2021 #606 (2021) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Scripture: Revelation 5:6-10 Lyrics: 1 Alleluia! Sing to Jesus; his the scepter, his the throne; Alleluia! his the triumph, his the victory alone. Hark! The songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood: "Jesus, out of ev'ry nation has redeemed us by his blood." 2 Alleluia! Bread of heaven, here on earth our food, our stay; Alleluia! here the sinful flee to you from day to day. Intercessor, friend of sinners, earth's Redeemer, hear our plea where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea. 3 Alleluia! Not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; Alleluia! he is near us; faith believes, nor questions how. Though the cloud from sight received him when the forty days were o'er, shall our hearts forget his promise: "I am with you evermore"? Holiest hearts for ages pleading never that full joy conceived. God has promised, Christ prepares it; there on high our welcome waits. Ev’ry humble spirit shares it. Christ has passed th’eternal gates. 3 Life eternal! Heav’n rejoices: Jesus lives who once was dead. Shout with joy, O deathless voices! Child of God, lift up your head! Life eternal! Here from All Nations

Author: Christopher M. Idle, b. 1938 Hymnal: CWH2021 #888 (2021) Meter: 11.10.11.10 Scripture: Revelation 5:11-14 First Line: Here from all nations, all tongues, and all peoples Lyrics: 1 Here from all nations, all tongues, and all peoples, countless the crowd but their voices are one. Vast is the sight and majestic their singing: "God has the vict'ry: he reigns from the throne!" 2 These have come out of the great tribulation; now they may stand in the presence of God, serving their Lord day and night in his temple, ransomed and cleansed by the Lamb's precious blood. 3 Gone is their thirst and no more shall they hunger; God is their shelter, his pow'r at their side. Sun shall not pain them, no burning will torture; Jesus the Lamb is their shepherd and guide. 4 He will go with them to clear living water flowing from springs which his mercy supplies. Gone is their grief, and their trials are over; God wipes away ev'ry tear from their eyes. 5 Blessing and glory and wisdom and power be to the Savior again and again. Might and thanksgiving and honor forever be to our God: Alleluia! Amen. Topics: Church Triumphant Languages: English Tune Title: O QUANTA QUALIA

O God from God, O Light from Light

Author: John Julian, 1839-1913 Hymnal: CWH2021 #629 (2021) Meter: 8.8.8.8 D Scripture: Revelation 5:12-13 Lyrics: 1 O God from God, O Light from Light, O Prince of Peace and King of kings, to you in heaven's glory bright the song of praise forever rings. To him who sits upon the throne, the Lamb once slain but raised again, be all the glory he has won, all thanks and praise! Amen, amen. 2 For deep in prophets' sacred page, and grand in poets' winged word, slowly in type, from age to age the nations saw their coming Lord; till through the deep Judean night rang out the song, "Good will to men!" What angels sang in heav'nly light re-echoes now, "Good will!" Amen. 3 That life of truth, those deeds of love, that death of pain mid hate and scorn— these all are past, and now above he reigns, our King once crowned with thorn. Lift up your heads, you heav'nly gates! So sang his hosts, unheard by men. Lift up your heads, for you he waits. We lift them up. Amen, amen. 4 Then sing to Christ a mighty song; extol his name, his mercies tell! Sing, heav'nly hosts, your praise prolong, and all on earth, your anthem swell! All hail, O Lamb for sinners slain! Forever let the song ascend! To Christ the King, enthroned to reign, all glory, pow'r! Amen, amen. Topics: Praise and Adoration Languages: English Tune Title: O GROSSER GOTT

Behold a Host, Arrayed in White

Author: Hans Brorson, 1694-1764 Hymnal: CWH2021 #883 (2021) Meter: 8.8.4.4.6.8.8.4.4.6.8.8.4.4.6 Scripture: Revelation 7:9-17 Lyrics: 1 Behold a host, arrayed in white, like thousand snow-clad mountains bright! With palms they stand; who is this band before the throne of light? These are the saints of glorious fame, who from the great affliction came and in the flood of Jesus' blood are cleansed from guilt and blame. Now gathered in the holy place, their voices they in worship raise; their anthems rise where God resides, mid angels' songs of praise. 2 Despised and scorned, they sojourned here; but now, how glorious they appear! Those martyrs stand, a priestly band, God's throne forever near. So oft in troubled days gone by, in anguish they would weep and sigh; at home above the God of love fore'er their tears shall dry. Now God has wiped away their tears, They now enjoy the Sabbath rest, the heav'nly banquet of the blest; the Lamb, their Lord, at festal board himself is host and guest. 3 O blessed saints in bright array, now safely home in endless day, extol the Lord, who with his Word sustained you on the way. The steep and narrow path you trod; you toiled and sowed the Word abroad; rejoice and bring your fruits and sing before the throne of God. Swing high your palms, lift up your song, yes, make it myriad voices strong! Let heaven ring— to Christ the King all praise and thanks belong!
