If You Will Only Let God Guide You

Author: Georg Neumark; Catherine Winkworth Hymnal: The Hymnal for Worship and Celebration #600 (1986) Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 If you will only let God guide you, And hope in Him thru all your ways, Whatever comes, He'll stand beside you, To bear you thru the evil days; Who trust in God's unchanging love Builds on the rock that cannot move. 2 Only be still, and wait His leisure In cheerful hope, with heart content To take whate'er the Father's pleasure And all discerning love have sent; Nor doubt our inmost wants are known To Him who chose us for His own. 3 Sing, pray, and swerve not from His ways, But do your part in conscience true; Trust His rich promises of grace, So shall they be fulfilled in you; God hears the call of those in need, The souls that trust in Him indeed. If Thou But Suffer God to Guide Thee

Author: Georg Neumark; Catherine Winkworth Hymnal: Trinity Hymnal (Rev. ed.) #670 (1990) Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 If thou but suffer God to guide thee, and hope in him through all thy ways, he'll give thee strength, whate'er betide thee, and bear thee through the evil days: Who trusts in God's unchanging love builds on the Rock that naught can move. 2 What can these anxious cares avail thee, these never-ceasing moans and sighs? What can it help, if thou bewail thee o'er each dark moment as it flies? Our cross and trials do but press the heavier for our bitterness. 3 Only be still, and wait his leisure in cheerful hope, with heart content to take whate'er thy Father's pleasure and all deserving love hath sent; nor doubt our inmost wants are known to him who chose us for his own. 4 All are alike before the Highest; 'tis easy to our God, we know, to raise thee up though low thou liest, to make the rich man poor and low; true wonders still by him are wrought who setteth up and brings to naught. 5 Sing, pray, and keep his ways unswerving, so do thine own part faithfully, and trust his Word - though undeserving, thou yet shalt find it true for thee; God never yet forsook at need the soul that trusted him indeed. If You Will Only Let God Guide You

Author: Georg Neumark; Catherine Winkworth Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #2786 Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1. If you will only let God guide you, And hope in Him through all your ways, Whatever comes, He’ll stand beside you, To bear you through the evil days; Who trusts in God’s unchanging love Builds on the Rock that cannot move. 2. Only be still, and wait His leisure In cheerful hope, with heart content To take whatever the Father’s pleasure And all discerning love have sent; Nor doubt our inmost wants are known To Him who chose us for His own. 3. Sing, pray, and swerve not from His ways, But do your part in conscience true; Trust His rich promises of grace, So shall they be fulfilled in you; God hears the call of those in need, The souls that trust in Him indeed. Winkworth's original translation: 1. If thou but suffer God to guide thee And hope in Him through all thy ways, He’ll give thee strength, whate’er betide thee, And bear thee through the evil days. Who trust in God’s unchanging love Builds on the rock that naught can move. 2. What can these anxious cares avail thee These never ceasing moans and sighs? What can it help if thou bewail thee O’er each dark moment as it flies? Our cross and trials do but press The heavier for our bitterness. 3. Be patient and await His leisure In cheerful hope, with heart content To take whatever thy Father’s pleasure And His discerning love hath sent, Nor doubt our inmost want are known To Him who chose us for His own. 4. God knows full well when time of gladness Shall be the needful thing for thee. When He has tried thy soul with sadness And from all guile has found thee free, He comes to thee all unaware And makes thee own His loving care. 5. Nor think amid the fiery trial That God hath cast thee off unheard, That he whose hopes meet no denial Must surely be of God preferred. Time passes and much change doth bring And set a bound to everything. 6. All are alike before the Highest: ’Tis easy for our God, We know, To raise thee up, though low thou liest, To make the rich man poor and low. True wonders still by Him are wrought Who setteth up and brings to naught. 7. Sing, pray, and keep His ways unswerving, Perform thy duties faithfully, And trust His Word: though undeserving, Thou yet shalt find it true for thee. God never yet forsook in need The soul that trusted Him indeed. Languages: English Tune Title: NEUMARK

Abide with Us, the Day Is Waning

Author: Caspar Boye; Oluf H. Smeby Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #7 Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1. Abide with us, the day is waning, Thus prayed the two while on the way; We read that Thou, O Lord, remaining, Didst all their doubts and fears allay. Incline Thine ear, Thou King of Grace, When, praying thus, we seek Thy face. 2. At eventide, Thy Spirit sending, Help us, O Lord, our watch to keep, In prayer devout before Thee bending, Ere we our eyelids close in sleep, Confessing sin in deed and word With hope of mercy from the Lord. 3. Abide with us; with heav’nly gladness Illumine, Lord, our darkest day; And when we weep in pain and sadness, Be Thou our Solace, Strength and Stay. Tell of Thy woe, Thy victory won, When Thou didst pray: Thy will be done. 4. Abide with us, O Savior tender, That bitter day when life shall end, When to the grave we must surrender, And fear and pain our hearts shall rend. The shield of faith do Thou bestow When trembling we must meet the foe. 5. When earthly help no more availeth, To sup with us Thou wilt be nigh; Thou givest strength that never faileth, In Thee we grave and death defy. While earth is fading from our sight, Our eyes behold the realms of light. Languages: English Tune Title: NEUMARK
