Come, All Ye Saints of Zion

Author: William W. Phelps, 1792–1872 Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 24 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 52:7-10 Lyrics: 1. Come, all ye Saints of Zion, And let us praise the Lord; His ransomed are returning, According to his word. In sacred song and gladness They walk the narrow way And thank the Lord who brought them To see the latter day. 2. Come, ye dispersed of Judah, Join in the theme and sing With harmony unceasing The praises of our King, Whose arm is now extended, On which the world may gaze, To gather up the righteous In these the latter days. 3. Rejoice, rejoice, O Israel, And let your joys abound! The voice of God shall reach you Wherever you are found And call you back from bondage, That you may sing his praise In Zion and Jerusalem, In these the latter days. 4. Then gather up for Zion, Ye Saints thru-out the land, And clear the way before you, As God shall give command. Tho wicked men and devils Exert their pow’r, ’tis vain, Since He who is eternal Has said you shall obtain. Topics: Gathering of Israel; Restoration; Zion Used With Tune: TEASDALE

The Salvation of God revealed

Meter: Irregular Appears in 17 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 52:9 First Line: O sight of anguish, view it near Lyrics: 1 O sight of anguish! view it near, What weeping innocence is here, A manger for his bed? The brutes yield refuge to his woe; Men, the worst brutes, no pity show, Nor give him friendly aid. 2 Why do no rapid thunders roll? Why do no tempests rock the pole? O miracle of grace! Or, why no angel on the wing, Warm for the honours of their King, T'extirpate all the race? 3 Did he, that infant bath'd in tears, Call into form the rolling spheres? Did seraphs wait his nod? Helpless he calls— but man delays: And mortal chaos disobeys The offspring of a God. 4 Say, radiant seraphs thron'd in light, Did love e'er tow'r so high a flight? Or glory sink so low? This wonder angels scarce declare, Angels the rapture scarce can bear, Or equal thanks bestow. 5 Redemption! 'tis a boundless theme! Thou boundless mind, our hearts inflame With ardour from above: Words are but faint— let joy express; Vain is mere joy— Men, Angels bless This prodigy of love. Glorious Things Are Sung of Zion

Author: William W. Phelps, 1792–1872 Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 16 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 52:8 Lyrics: 1. Glorious things are sung of Zion, Enoch’s city seen of old, Where the righteous, being perfect, Walked with God in streets of gold. Love and virtue, faith and wisdom, Grace and gifts were all combined. As himself each loved his neighbor; All were one in heart and mind. 2. There they shunn’d the pow’r of Satan And observed celestial laws; For in Adam-ondi-Ahman Zion rose where Eden was. When beyond the pow’r of evil, So that none could covet wealth, One continual feast of blessings Crown’d their days with peace and health. 3. Then the tow’rs of Zion glittered Like the sun in yonder skies, And the wicked stood and trembled, Filled with wonder and surprise. Then their faith and works were perfect; Lo, they followed their great Head! So the city went to heaven, And the world said, “Zion’s fled!” 4. When the Lord returns with Zion, And we hear the watchman cry, Then we’ll surely be united, And we’ll all see eye to eye. Then we’ll mingle with the angels, And the Lord will bless his own. Then the earth will be as Eden, And we’ll know as we are known. Topics: Jesus Christ Second Coming; Millennium; Restoration; Unity; Zion Used With Tune: IN BABILONE

How Shall They Hear the Word of God

Author: Michael A. Perry Meter: 8.6.8.6.8.8 Appears in 14 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 52:7 Lyrics: 1 How shall they hear the word of God unless his truth is told? How shall the sinful be set free, the sorrowful consoled? To all who speak the truth today, impart your Spirit, Lord, we pray. 2 How shall they call to God for help unless they have believed? How shall the poor be given hope, the prisoner reprieved? To those who help the blind to see, give light and love and clarity. 3 How shall the gospel be proclaimed that sinners may repent? How shall the world find peace at last if heralds are not sent? So send us, Lord, for we rejoice to speak of Christ with life and voice.
