Author: Charles Wesley, 1707-1788 Hymnal: Common Praise #150 (2000) Meter: 7.7.7.7 Topics: Easter; Easter Day Year A; Easter III Year B; Third Sunday Before Advent Year C Lyrics: 1 Love's redeeming work is done; fought the fight, the battle won: lo, our Sun's eclipse is o'er, lo, he sets in blood no more. 2 Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Christ has burst the gates of hell; death in vain forbids his rise; Christ has opened paradise. 3 Lives again our glorious King; where, O death, is now thy sting? dying once, he all doth save; where thy victory, O grave? 4 Soar we now where Christ has led, following our exalted Head; made like him, like him we rise; ours the cross, the grave, the skies. 5 Hail the Lord of earth and heaven! Praise to thee by both be given: thee we greet triumphant now; hail, the Resurrection Thou! Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:54-57 Languages: English Tune Title: SAVANNAH

Glorious things of thee are spoken

Author: John Newton, 1725-1807 Hymnal: Common Praise #435a (2000) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Topics: Lent III Year A; Proper 9 Year B; Second Sunday Before Advent Year B Lyrics: 1 Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God; he whose word cannot be broken formed thee for his own abode. On the Rock of ages founded, what can shake thy sure repose? With salvation's walls surrounded, thou may'st smile at all thy foes. 2 See, the streams of living waters, springing from eternal love, well supply thy sons and daughters, and all fear of want remove. Who can faint while such a river ever flows their thirst to assuage: grace which, like the Lord the giver, never fails from age to age? *3 Round each habitation hovering, see the cloud and fire appear for a glory and a covering, showing that the Lord is near. Thus they march, the pillar leading, light by night and shade by day; daily on the manna feeding which he gives them when they pray. 4 Saviour, if of Zion's city I through grace a member am, let the world deride or pity, I will glory in thy name. Fading is the worldling's pleasure, all his boasted pomp and show; solid joys and lasting treasure, none but Zion's children know. Scripture: 1 John 2:17 Languages: English Tune Title: ABBOT'S LEIGH

Oft in danger, oft in woe

Author: Henry Kirke White, 1785-1806 Hymnal: Common Praise #547 (2000) Meter: 7.7.7.7 Topics: Lent II Year A; Lent III Year B; Proper 23 Year C; Second Sunday Before Advent Year B; Lent Lyrics: 1 Oft in danger, oft in woe, onward, Christians, onward go; bear the toil, maintain the strife, strengthened with the bread of life. 2 Onward, Christians, onward go, join the war, and face the foe; will ye flee in danger's hour? Know ye not your Captain's power? 3 Let not sorrow dim your eye; soon shall every tear be dry: let not fears your course impede; great your strength, if great your need. 4 Let your drooping hearts be glad; march in heavenly armour clad; fight, nor think the battle long: soon shall victory wake your song. 5 Onward then in battle move; more than conquerors ye shall prove: though opposed by many a foe, Christian soldiers, onward go.
