Rev. Bernard Kyamanywa wrote the original Swahili text while he was in seminary in Tanzania.
He wrote it in a very African style, envisioning a story-teller and congregation responding; the story-
teller presents the simple story of the Easter Gospel, and the congregation responds with the
refrain. (Although it can be sung in unison.)

George Benjamin Nind

Sou de Jesus!" in Hinário para o Culto Cristão George Benjamin Nind (1860 – 1932) was a methodist missionary who worked in Brazil and in Madeira Island, Portugal. George B. Nind was born in St. Charles, Illinois, USA, and studied music in the Hershey School of Musical Art in Chicago. For two years, George B. Nind teached music in the school of divinity in Albion city, Iowa.
In 1882, George B. Nind went to Brazil as a missionary, but he was not supported by any missionary society or a board of foreign mission. In the year of 1892, Nind returned to USA, and started a evangelistic work amid Portuguese people in the city of New Bedford, Massachusetts. There, in the year of 1899, he established the 1ª Methodist Episcopal Portuguese Church.
In 1901, now with the Board of Foreign Missions, Mr. Nind started a missionary work in Brava, Cabo Verde Island, and in the next year he moved to Funchal e Monte da Fé, Madeira Island, where he remained until 1920. He left the missionary active work in 1924, returned to New England, where he worked with people who speak Portuguese language. In 1930, he was appointed to be an instructor in the Kennedy School of Missions in Hartford.
In Brazil, one of the legacies of Mr. Nind was the translation of the hymn "Blessed Assurance" (Que segurança! Tenho em Jesus...) by Fanny Crosby (1820-1915), hymn number 417 from Hinário para o Culto Cristão, or 341 from Hinário Evangélico and the hymn "Safely through another week" by John Newton (A semana já passou, o Senhor guiou-nos bem... nº 149 Hinário Evangélico or 139 from Cantor Cristão).
