"Into thine hand"

Author: Edgar A. Bowring Appears in 14 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 17:15 First Line: When my last hour is close at hand Lyrics: 1 When my last hour is close at hand, My last and journey taken, Do thou, Lord Jesus! by me stand; Let me not be forsaken: O Lord! my spirit I resign Into thy loving hands divine; 'Tis safe within thy keeping. 2 Countless as sands upon the shore, My sins may then appall me; Yet, though my conscience vex me sore, Despair shall not enthrall me; For as I draw my latest breath, I'll think, Lord Christ! upon thy death; And there find consolation. 3 I shall not in the grave remain, Since thou death's bonds hast severed: By hope with thee to rise again, From fear of death delivered, I'll come to thee, where'er thou art,-- Live with thee, from thee never part; Therefore I die in rapture. 4 And so to Jesus Christ I'll go, My longing arms extending; So fall asleep in slumber deep, Slumber that knows no ending; Till Jesus Christ, God's only Son, Opens the gates of bliss, leads on To heaven, to life eternal. Topics: Asleep in Jesus; Death Used With Tune: JUDGMENT

O Lord, Thou Judge of All the Earth

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 10 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 17 Lyrics: 1 O Lord, thou Judge of all the earth, to whom all vengeance doth belong, arise and show thy glory forth, requite the proud, condemn the wrong. 2 How long, O Lord, in boastful pride shall wicked men triumphant stand? How long shall they afflict thy saints and scorn thy wrath, thy dreadful hand? 3 Be wise, ye fools and brutish men; shall not he see, who formed the eye? Shall not he hear, who formed the ear, and judge, who reigneth, God Most High? 4 The Lord will judge in righteousness, from him all truth and knowledge flow; the foolish thoughts of wicked men, how vain they are the Lord doth know. 5 That man is blest whom thou, O Lord, with chast'ning hand dost teach thy will, for in the day when sinners fall, that man in peace abideth still. 6 Unless the Lord had been my help, my life had quickly passed away; but when my foot had almost slipped, O Lord, thy mercy was my stay. This is the doctrine christians need

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 17 Lyrics: 1 This is the doctrine christians need, To know and firmly b'lieve; That Jesus Christ will raise the dead, And cause them all to live. 2 This will support and bear them up, In trouble, war and strife; For this affords a living hope Of everlasting life. 3 Has Jesus died and rose again? Then it must needs be true: That these, our hopes, are not in vain! We shall be raised too. 4 The Lord from heaven shall appear, With ang'lic hosts around; And all the dead, his voice shall hear, Wak'd by the trumpet sound. 5 Then shall our bodies be renew'd And fitted to embrace The glorious presence of our God! And to behold his face. 6 How happy will the righteous be When raised from the dust: From all distress and labour free, And number'd with the just. 7 What glorious views beyond the grave! Is by this doctrine giv'n; What comforts faithful souls can have! Who seek the joys of heav'n. Topics: 25th Sunday after Trinity

When All Is Ended

Author: Brian Wren Meter: 10.10.10 with alleluias Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 17:15 First Line: When all is ended, time and troubles past Lyrics: 1 When all is ended, time and troubles past, shall all be mended, sin and death out-cast? In hope we sing, and hope to sing at last: Alleluia! Alleluia! 2 As in the night, when lightning flickers free, and gives a glimpse of distant hill and tree, each flash of good discloses what will be: Alleluia! Alleluia! 3 Against all hope, our weary times have known wars ended, peace declared, compassion shown, great days of freedom, tyrants overthrown: Alleluia! Alleluia! 4 Then do not cheat the poor, who long for bread, with dream-worlds in the sky or in the head, but sing of slaves set free, and children fed: Alleluia! Alleluia! 5 With earthy faith we sing a song of heaven: all life fulfilled, all loved, all wrong forgiven. Christ is our sign of hope, for Christ is risen: Alleluia! Alleluia! 6 With all creation, pain and anger past, evil exhausted, love supreme at last, alive in God, we’ll sing an unsurpassed Alleluia! Alleluia!
