At the Lamb's high feast we sing

Author: Robert Campbell, 1814-1868 Hymnal: Common Praise #138 (2000) Meter: 7.7.7.7 D Lyrics: 1 At the Lamb's high feast we sing praise to our victorious King, who hath washed us in the tide flowing from his piercèd side; praise we him, whose love divine gives his sacred blood for wine, gives his body for the feast, Christ the victim, Christ the priest. 2 Where the Paschal blood is poured, death's dark angel sheathes his sword; Israel's hosts triumphant go through the wave that drowns the foe. Praise we Christ, whose blood was shed, Paschal victim, Paschal bread; with sincerity and love eat we manna from above. 3 Mighty victim from the sky, hell's fierce powers beneath thee lie; thou hast conquered in the fight, thou hast brought us life and light. Now no more can death appal, now no more the grave enthral: thou hast opened paradise, and in thee thy saints shall rise. 4 Easter triumph, Easter joy, sin alone can this destroy; from sin's power do thou set free souls new-born, O Lord, in thee. Hymns of glory and of praise, risen Lord, to thee we raise; holy Father, praise to thee, with the Spirit, ever be. Topics: Easter; Easter II Year B; Easter V Year C Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 Languages: English Tune Title: SALZBURG

All Whose Boast It Is

Author: James Russell Lowell, 1819-1891 Hymnal: Singing the Living Tradition #150 (1993) Meter: 7.7.7.7 D First Line: All whose boast it is that we Lyrics: 1 All whose boast it is that we come of forebears brave and free, if there breathe on earth a slave, are we truly free and brave? If we do not feel the chain when it works another’s pain, are we not base slaves indeed, slaves unwilling to be freed? 2 Is true freedom but to break fetters for our own dear sake, and with leathern hearts forget we owe humankind a debt? No, true freedom is to share all the chains that others wear, and, with heart and hand, to be earnest to make others free. 3 They are slaves who fear to speak for the fallen and the weak; they are slaves who will not choose hatred, scoffing, and abuse, rather than in silence shrink from the truth they needs must think. They are slaves who dare not be in the right with two or three. Topics: Words and Deeds of Prophetic Women and Men Freedom; Justice and Equity; Right of Conscience Languages: English Tune Title: SALZBURG

Sing of God Made Manifest

Author: Carl P. Daw Jr. Hymnal: Glory to God #156 (2013) Meter: 7.7.7.7 D Lyrics: 1 Sing of God made manifest in a child robust and blest, to whose home in Bethlehem where a star had guided them, magi came and gifts unbound, signs mysterious and profound: myrrh and frankincense and gold grave and God and king foretold. 2 Sing of God made manifest when at Jordan John confessed, “I should be baptized by you, but your bidding I will do.” Then from heaven a double sign – dove-like Spirit, voice divine – hailed the true Anointed One: “This is my beloved Son.” 3 Sing of God made manifest when Christ came as wedding guest and at Cana gave a sign, turning water into wine; further still was love revealed as he taught, forgave, and healed, bringing light and life to all who would listen to God’s call. 4 Sing of God made manifest on the cloud-capped mountain’s crest, where the law and prophets waned so that Christ alone remained: glimpse of glory, pledge of grace, given as Jesus set his face towards the waiting cross and grave, sign of hope that God would save.
