The God of Abraham praise

Author: Thomas Olivers, 1724-1799 Hymnal: TBP1997 #331 (1997) Meter: 6.6.8.4 D Lyrics: 1 The God of Abraham praise, who reigns enthroned above, ancient of everlasting days, and God of love. Almighty, great I Am! by earth and heaven confessed, I bow and bless the sacred name forever blest. 2 The God of Abraham praise, at whose supreme command from earth I rise and seek the joys at God's right hand. I all on earth forsake, its wisdom, fame and power, and Lord my only portion make, my shield and tower. 3 Though nature’s strength decay, and earth and hell withstand, to Canaan’s bounds I urge my way at God's command; the watery deep I pass with Jesus in my view; and through the howling wilderness my way pursue. 4 The goodly land I see, with peace and plenty blest, a land of sacred liberty and endless rest; there milk and honey flow, and oil and wine abound, and trees of life forever grow, with mercy crowned. 5 There dwells the Lord our King, the Lord our Righteousness; triumphant o’er the world and sin, the Prince of Peace On Zion’s sacred height God's kingdom still maintains, and glorious with the saints in light forever reigns. 6 The whole triumphant host give thanks to God on high; "hail, Father, Son and Holy Ghost" they ever cry. Hail, Abraham’s God, and mine! I join the heavenly lays; all might and majesty are thine, and endless praise. I sing the almighty power of God

Author: Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 Hymnal: TBP1997 #333 (1997) Lyrics: 1 I sing the almighty power of God that made the mountains rise, that spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies. I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day; the moon shines full at God’s command, and all the stars obey. 2 I sing the goodness of the Lord, that filled the earth with food; God formed the creatures with a word, and then pronounced them good. Lord, how thy wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eyes, if I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the skies! 3 There’s not a plant or flower below but makes thy glories known, and clouds arise and tempests blow by order from thy throne, while all that borrows life from thee is ever in thy care, and everywhere that I could be, thou, God, art present there. At the name of Jesus

Author: Caroline Maria Noel, 1817-1877 Hymnal: TBP1997 #340 (1997) Meter: 6.5.6.5 D Lyrics: 1 At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, every tongue confess him King of glory now; 'tis our God's good pleasure we should call him Lord, who from the beginning was the mighty Word. 2 Humbled for a season to receive a name from the lips of sinners unto whom he came. Faithful, Jesus bore it spotless to the last, brought it back victorious when from death he passed. 3 Name him, Christians, name him, with love strong as death, name with awe and wonder, and with bated breath; this is God the Saviour; this is Christ the Lord, ever to be worshipped trusted and adored. 4 In your hearts enthrone him; there let him subdue all that is not holy, all that is not true, Crown him as your captain in temptation's hour; let his will enfold you in its light and power. 5 Christians, this Lord Jesus shall return again, with his Father's glory and an angel train, for all wreaths of empire meet upon his brow, and our hearts confess him King of glory now. Topics: God in Christ; Jesus Christ Word; Jesus Christ Resurrection; Jesus Christ Name of; Jesus Christ Incarnation; Second Coming Scripture: Philippians 2:6-11 Languages: English Tune Title: KING'S WESTON
