Sing Hallelujah, for 'tis good

Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 147 Lyrics: 1 Sing HALLELUJAH: for 'tis good praise to our God to sing; for the employment is most sweet, and praise a comely thing. 2 The LORD Jerusalem rebuilds, though level'd with the ground; And Isr'el gathers tho' dispers'd through all the nations round. 3 The broken hearted ones He heals, binds up their breaches all: 4 The number of the stars He tells, and each by name doth call. 5 Great is our Lord, and great in pow'r; his knowledge has no bound: 6 The LORD lifts up the meek; but casts the wicked to the ground. 7 With thankfulness then to the LORD your cheerful voices raise; And on the harp to Him our God, sing grateful hymns of praise. 8 Who over-spreads with clouds the sky; who for the earth below Prepares his rain, and makes the grass upon the mountains grow. 9 To all the beasts of fields and woods He gives a full supply; Yea sees and hears the ravens young, and feeds them when they cry. 10 In horses strength or fortitude, is none of his delight; Nor in the sprightly limbs of men, most active in the sight. 11 The LORD in all who fear him takes a pleasure very great; And in all those who humbly hope and on his mercy wait. [2 Part] 12 The LORD praise, O Jerusalem, thy God, O Zion praise; 13 Who made thy gates and bars so strong, and bless'd in thee thy race. 14 Who causes in thy borders peace; thy store so rich to be, He gives the finest flower of wheat a full supply to thee. 15 He forth on earth sends his decree, his word is swiftly-past. 16 He gives the snow like wool, and doth hoar frost as ashes cast. 17 His ice in hail, like morsels down, He casts as with his hand: Before the sharpness of his cold who can endure to stand? 18 But then sends forth his mighty word, bids his warm wind to blow, which soon dissolves the parts congeal'd and makes the waters flow. 19 To Jacob He, as his belov'd, his heav'nly word hath shown: His statutes and his judgments He to Isr'el hath made known. 20 With none of all the nations round so kindly dealt hath He: For they his judgments have not know; sing HALLELUJAH, ye.

Where are the voices for the earth?

Author: Shirley Erena Murray (b. 1931) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 147:15-19 Lyrics: 1 Where are the voices for the earth? Where are the eyes to see her pain, wasted by our consuming path, weeping the tears of poisoned rain? 2 Sacred the soil that hugs the seed, sacred the silent fall of snow, sacred the world that God decreed, water and sun and river flow. 3 Where shall we run who break this code, where shall tomorrow's children be, left with the ruined gifts of God, death for the creatures, land, and sea? 4 We are the voices for the earth, we who will care enough to cry, cherish her beauty, clear her breath, live that our planet may not die. Laudate Dominum

Author: N. Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 147 First Line: Praise ye the Lord, for it is good Lyrics: 1 Praise ye the Lord, for it is good unto our God to sing; For it is pleasant, and to praise it is a comely thing. 2 The Lord his own Jerusalem he buildeth up alone: And the disperst of Israel doth gather into one. 3 He heales the broken in their heart, their sores up doth he bind: 4 He counts the number of the starres, and names them in their kind. 5 Great is the Lord, great is his power his wisdome infinite: 6 The Lord relieves the meek, and throws to ground the wicked wight. 7 Sing unto God the Lord with praise, unto the Lord rejoyce: And to our God upon the Harp advance your singing voice. 8 He covers heaven with clouds, and for the earth prepareth raine: And on the mountaines he doth make the grasse to grow againe. 9 He gives to beasts their food, and to young Tavens when they cry: 10 His pleasure not in strength of horse, nor in mans legs doth lie. 11 But in all those that feare the Lord, the Lord hath his delight: And such as do attend upon his mercies shining light. The second Part: 12 O praise the Lord Jerusalem, thy God O Sion praise: 1e For he the barres hath forged strong, wherewith thy gates he staies. 14 Thy children he hath blest in thee, and in thy borders he Doth settle peace, and with the flower of wheat he filleth thee. 15 And his commandement upon the earth he sendeth out: And eke his word with speedy course doth swiftly run about. 16 He giveth snow like wool, hoar-frost like ashes he doth spread: 17 Like morsels casts his ice, thereof the cold who can abide? 18 He sendeth forth his mighty word, and melteth them againe: His wind he makes to blow, and then the waters flow amaine. 19 The doctrine of his holy word to Jacob he doth show: His statutes and his judgements he gives Israel to know. 20 With any Nation hath he not so dealt, nor have they known His secret judgements, ye therefore praise ye the Lord alone. Used With Tune: [Praise ye the Lord for it is good]

When All Thy Mercies, O My God

Author: Joseph Addison (1672-1719) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 996 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 147 First Line: When all thy mercies, O my God Lyrics: 1 When all thy mercies, O my God, my rising soul surveys, transported with the view, I'm lost in wonder, love, and praise. 2 Unnumbered comforts to my soul thy tender care bestowed, before my infant heart conceived from whom those comforts flowed. 3 Ten thousand thousand precious gifts my daily thanks employ; nor is the least a cheerful heart that tastes those gifts with joy. 4 Through every period of my life thy goodness I'll pursue; and after death, in distant worlds the glorious theme renew. 5 Through all eternity to thee a joyful song I'll raise; for O, eternity's too short to utter all thy praise!
