Psalm 19: The heav'ns God's glory do declare

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 13 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 19 First Line: The heav'ns God's glory do declare Lyrics: 1The heav’ns God’s glory do declare, the skies his hand-works preach: 2Day utters speech to day, and night to night doth knowledge teach. 3There is no speech nor tongue to which their voice doth not extend: 4Their line is gone through all the earth, their words to the world’s end. In them he set the sun a tent; 5Who, bridegroom-like, forth goes From’s chamber, as a strong man doth to run his race rejoice. 6From heav’n’s end is his going forth, circling to th’ end again; And there is nothing from his heat that hidden doth remain. 7God’s law is perfect, and converts the soul in sin that lies: God’s testimony is most sure, and makes the simple wise. 8The statutes of the Lord are right, and do rejoice the heart: The Lord’s command is pure, and doth light to the eyes impart. 9Unspotted is the fear of God, and doth endure for ever: The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10They more than gold, yea, much fine gold, to be desired are: Than honey, honey from the comb that droppeth, sweeter far. 11Moreover, they thy servant warn how he his life should frame: A great reward provided is for them that keep the same. 12Who can his errors understand? O cleanse thou me within 13From secret faults. Thy servant keep from all presumptuous sin: And do not suffer them to have dominion over me: Then, righteous and innocent, I from much sin shall be. 14The words which from my mouth proceed, the thoughts sent from my heart, Accept, O Lord, for thou my strength and my Redeemer art.

God's Glory Fills the Heavens

Author: Carl P. Daw Jr., b. 1944 Meter: 8.8.8.8 D Appears in 8 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 19 First Line: God's glory fills the heavens with hymns Lyrics: 1 God’s glory fills the heavens with hymns; the domed sky bears the Maker’s mark. New praises sound from day to day and echo through the knowing dark. Without a word their songs roll on; into all lands their voices run. And with a champion’s strength and grace from farthest heaven comes forth the sun. 2 God’s perfect law revives the soul; its precepts make the simple wise. Its just commands rejoice the heart; its truth gives light unto the eyes. Forever shall this law endure: unblemished, righteous, true, complete. No gold we ever found so fine, no honey in the comb more sweet. 3 God’s servant may I ever be: this world my joy, that word my guide. O cleanse me, LORD, from secret sin; deliver me from selfish pride. Accept my thoughts and words and deeds; let them find favor in your sight. For you alone can make me whole, O LORD, my refuge and my might. The Heav'ns declare thy Glory, Lord

Appears in 26 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 19 Lyrics: 1 The Heav'ns declare thy Glory, Lord, which that alone can fill; The Firmament and Stars express their great Creator's Skill. 2 The Dawn of each returning Day, fresh Beams of Knowledge brings; From darkest Night's successive rounds divine Instruction springs. 3 Their pow'rful language to no Realm or Region is confin'd; 'Tis Nature's Voice, and understood alike by all Mankind. 4 Their Doctrine does its sacred Sense through Earth's Extent display; Whose bright contents the circling Sun does round the World convey. 5 No Bridegroom for his Nuptials dress'd, has such a chearful Face: No Giant does like him rejoice, to run his glorious Race. 6 From East to West, from West to East, his restless Course he goes; And, through his Progress, chearful Light, and vital Warmth bestows. Part II 7 God's perfect Law converts the Soul, reclaims from false Desires; With sacred wisdom His sure Word the Ignorant inspires. 8 The Statutes of the Lord are just, and bring sincere Delight; His pure commands in search of Truth assist the feeblest Sight. 9 His perfect Worship here is fix'd, on sure Foundations laid: His equal Laws are in the Scales of Truth and Justice weigh'd: 10 Of more Esteem than golden Mines, or Gold refin'd with Skill; More sweet than Honey, or the Drops that from the Comb distil. 11 My trusty Counsellors they are, and friendly Warnings give: Divine Rewards attend on those who by thy Precepts live. 12 But what frail Man observes how oft he does from Virtue fall! O, cleanse me from my secret Faults, thou God that know'st them all. 13 Let no presumptuous Sin, O Lord, Dominion have o'er me; That, by thy Grace preserv'd, I may the great Transgression flee. 14 So shall my Pray'r and Praises be with thy Acceptance blest; And I secure, on thy Defence, my Strength and Saviour, rest.

Jehovah's Perfect Law

Meter: 6.6.6.6.8.8 Appears in 8 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 19:7-14 Lyrics: 1 Jehovah's perfect law restores the soul again; his testimony sure gives wisdom unto men; the precepts of the Lord are right, and fill the heart with great delight. 2 The Lord's commands are pure, they light and joy restore; Jehovah's fear is clean, enduring evermore; his statutes, let the world confess, are wholly truth and righteousness. 3 They are to be desired above the finest gold; than honey from the comb more sweetness far they hold; with warnings they your servant guard, in keeping them is great reward. 4 His errors who can know? Cleanse me from hidden stain; keep me from wilful sins, nor let them o'er me reign; and then I upright shall appear and be from great transgressions clear. 5 Whene'er you search my life, may all my thoughts within and all the words I speak your full approval win. O Lord, you are a Rock to me, and my Redeemer you shall be. I love the volume of thy word

Author: Watts Appears in 175 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 19 Lyrics: 1 I love the volume of thy word; What light and joy those leaves afford To souls benighted and distressed! Thy precepts guide my doubtful way, Thy fear forbids my feet to stray, Thy promise leads my heart to rest. 2 From the discoveries of thy law, Thy perfect rules of life I draw: These are my study and delight; Not honey so invites the taste, Nor gold that has the furnace passed, Appears so pleasing to the sight. 3 Who knows the errors of his thoughts? My God! forgive my secret faults, And from presumptuous sins restrain; Accept my poor attempts of praise, That I have read thy book of grace, And book of nature, not in vain.
