O What Their Joy and Their Glory Must Be

Author: Peter Abelard (1079-1142); John Mason Neale (1818-1866) Hymnal: Common Praise (1998) #275 (1998) Meter: 10.10.10.10 Scripture: Psalm 132 Lyrics: 1 O what their joy and their glory must be, those endless sabbaths the blessed ones see: crown for the valiant, to weary ones rest: God shall be all and in all ever blest. 2 What are the monarch, the court, and the throne? What are the peace and the joy that they own? O that the blest ones, who in it have share, all that they feel could as fully declare! 3 Truly Jerusalem name we that shore, vision of peace, that brings joy evermore; wish and fulfillment can be severed ne'er, nor the thing prayed for come short of the prayer. 4 There, where no troubles distraction can bring, we the sweet anthems of Sion shall sing, while for thy grace, Lord, their voices of praise thy blessed people eternally raise. 5 Now, in the meantime, with hearts raised on high, we for that country must yearn and must sigh, seeking Jerusalem, dear native land, through our long exile on Babylon's strand. 6 Low before God with our praises we fall, of whom, and in whom, and through whom are all; praise to the Father, and praise to the Son, praise to the Spirit, with them ever one. Topics: Communion of Saints Languages: English Tune Title: O QUANTA QUALIA

Psalm 132

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.301 (1806) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: Psalm 132:5 First Line: Where shall we go to seek and find Lyrics: Where shall we go to seek and find An habitation for our God, A dwelling for th' Eternal Mind, Among the sons of flesh and blood? The God of Jacob chose the hill Of Zion for his ancient rest; And Zion is his dwelling still, His church is with his presence blessed. Here will I fix my gracious throne, And reign for ever, saith the Lord; Here shall my power and love be known, And blessings shall attend my word. Here will I meet the hungry poor, And fill their souls with living bread; Sinners that wait before my door With sweet provision shall be fed. Girded with truth, and clothed with grace, My priests, my ministers, shall shine Not Aaron in his costly dress Made an appearance so divine. The saints, unable to contain Their inward joys, shall shout and sing; The Son of David here shall reign, And Zion triumph in her King. [Jesus shall see a num'rous seed Born here t' uphold his glorious name; His crown shall flourish on his head, While all his foes are clothed with shame.] Topics: Worship public; Christ his kingdom among the Gentiles; Church God's presence there; Church God's special delight; Church gathered and settled; Ministers ordained Languages: English
