Jesus' Little Lamb

Author: Mrs. C. E. Baldwin Meter: 7.6.8.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals First Line: I am Jesus’ little lamb Lyrics: 1 I am Jesus’ little lamb, He’ll wash me white as snow, And to the place where He has gone, He’ll surely let me go. Refrain: Keep me, Jesus, while I sleep, And guide me through the day, For while I sleep I cannot sin, But when I wake, I may. 2 Lead me to the waters still, And through the pastures green, But in the way of vice and sin, O let me ne’er be seen. [Refrain] 3 Teach me how to patient be, Let love within me stay, That I may help to bring to Thee The little lambs that stray. A Song Was Heard at Christmas

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith, b. 1926 Meter: 7.6.8.6 D Appears in 3 hymnals Lyrics: 1 A song was heard at Christmas To wake the midnight sky: A Savior's birth, and peace on earth, And praise to God on high. The angels sang at Christmas With all the hosts above, And still we sing the newborn King, His glory and His love. 2 A star was seen at Christmas, A herald and a sign, That all might know the way to go To find the child divine. The wise men watched at Christmas In some far eastern land, And still the wise in starry skies Discern their Maker's hand. 3 A tree was grown at Christmas, A sapling green and young; No tinsel bright with candlelight Upon its branches hung. But He who came at Christmas Our sins and sorrow bore, And still we name His tree of shame Our life for evermore. 4 A child was born at Christmas When Christmas first began; The Lord of all a baby small, The Son of God made man. For love is ours at Christmas, And life and light restored, And so we praise through endless days The Savior, Christ the Lord. Topics: The Celebration of the Gospel Story Christmas; Christian Year Christmas; Grace Used With Tune: ANDUJAR

Caught By Th'Almighty Hand

Author: Charles Wesley, 1707-1788 Meter: 7.6.8.6 D Appears in 3 hymnals First Line: Caught by th’Almighty hand Lyrics: 1 Caught by th’Almighty hand, That Spirit of the Lord, Carried beyond myself I stand, A witness of His Word; I see the book unsealèd, Least of the prophets’ sons, I mark Ezekiel’s valley filled With visionary bones! 2 Many they are and dry, Spread through the open vale, Millions of lifeless souls they lie Within the Christian pale: I pass the churches through, The scattered bones I see, And Christendom appears in view A hideous Calvary. 3 Can these dry bones perceive The quickening power of grace, Or Christian infidels retrieve The life of righteousness? All-good, almighty Lord, Thou know’st Thine own design, The virtue of Thine own great Word, The energy divine. 4 Now for Thy mercy’s sake, Let Thy great Word proceed, Dispensed by whom Thou wilt, to wake The spiritually dead; Send forth to prophesy Thy chosen messenger, And Thou the Gospel word apply, And force the world to hear. 5 "Hear, ye dry bones, and feel The word of truth and grace: I will in you Myself reveal, I will your spirits raise," Jehovah speaks the word! The promise is for you, Ye shall be gradually restored, And fashioned all anew. 6 Lord, while at Thy command Thy servants prophesy, O let it spread through every land The sound of Jesus nigh! The dead professors shake, And with Thy quickening breath, Dispose their senseless souls to wake Out of the sleep of death. Used With Tune: ALFORD

O'er Continent and Ocean

Author: John H. Holmes Meter: 7.6.8.6 D Appears in 3 hymnals Lyrics: 1. O’er continent and ocean, From city, field, and wood, Still speak, O Lord, Thy messengers Of peace and brotherhood. In Athens and Benares, In Rome and Galilee, They fronted kings and conquerors, And taught mankind of Thee. 2. We hear, O Lord, these voices, And hail them as Thine own, They speak as speak the winds and tides On planets far and lone. One God, the life of ages, One rule, His will above, One realm our wide humanity, One law, the law of love. 3. The tribes and nations falter In rivalries of fear; The fires of hate to ashes turn, To dust the sword and spear. Thy Word alone remaineth; That word we speak again; O’er sea and shore and continent, To all the sons of men. Used With Tune: PATMOS (Storer)
