Salvation now to us has come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551; Carl Döving, 1867-1936 Hymnal: Together in Song #195 (1999) Meter: 8.7.87.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1 Salvation now to us has come by God’s free grace and favour; good works cannot avert our doom, they help and save us never. In faith we look to Christ alone, who did for all the world atone; he is our one redeemer. 2 The law of God fulfilled must be, or we were lost for ever; therefore God sent his Son that he might us from death deliver. For us the law he has fulfilled, the Father's anger he has stilled; God's curse is gone for ever. 3 Since Christ has full atonement made and brought us to salvation, each Christian therefore may be glad, and build on this foundation: your grace alone, dear Lord, we plead, your death is now our life indeed, for you have paid our ransom. 4 To you, O Lord, in faith we cling, we love and trust you truly, and from this faith good works will spring that serve our neighbour duly. It's faith alone that justified; the works that from such faith arise reveal that it is living. 5 All blessing, honour, thanks and praise to Father, Son, and Spirit, to God who saved us by his grace; all glory to his merit! O Triune God, in heaven above, you have revealed your saving love; your blessèd name we hallow. All praise to God Who reigns above

Author: Johann Jacob Schütz; Frances Elizabeth Cox Hymnal: Common Service Book of the Lutheran Church #285 (1917) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1 All praise to God Who reigns above, The God of all creation, The God of power, the God of love, The God of our salvation; With healing balm my soul He fills, And every faithless murmur stills. To God all praise and glory! 2 The angel host, O King of kings, Thy praise for ever telling, In earth and sky all living things, Beneath Thy shadow dwelling, Adore the wisdom which could span, And power which formed creation's plan. To God all praise and glory! 3 What God's almighty power hath made His gracious mercy keepeth; By morning dawn or evening shade His watchful eye ne'er sleepeth; Within the kingdom of His might, Lo! all is just and all is right. To God all praise and glory! 4 The Lord is never far away, But, through all grief distressing, And ever-present help and stay, Our peace, and joy, and blessing; As with a mother's tender hand He leads His own, His chosen band. To God all praise and glory! 5 Thus, all my gladsome way along, I'll sing aloud Thy praises, That men may hear the grateful song My voice unwearied raises; Be joyful in the Lord, my heart! Both soul and body, bear your part! To God all praise and glory! Amen. Topics: The Christian Life Prayer, Praise and Thanksgiving Languages: English Tune Title: ES IST DAS HEIL UNS KOMMEN HER

Salvation unto Us Has Come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1531 Hymnal: Lutheran Worship #355 (1982) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1 Salvation unto us has come By God's free grace and favor; Good works cannot avert our doom, They help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, Who did for all the world atone; He is our one redeemer. 2 What God did in his Law demand And none to him could render Caused wrath and woe on ev'ry hand For man, the vile offender. Our flesh has not those pure desires The spirit of the Law requires, And lost is our condition. 3 It was a false, misleading dream That God his Law had given That sinners could themselves redeem And by their works gain heaven. The Law is but a mirror bright To bring the inbred sin to light That lurks within our nature. 4 Since Christ has full atonement made And brought to us salvation, Each Christian therefore may be glad And build on this foundation. Your grace alone, dear Lord, I plead, Your death is now my life indeed, For you have paid my ransom. 5 Faith clings to Jesus' cross alone And rests in him unceasing; And by its fruits true faith is known, With love and hope increasing. For faith alone can justify; Works serve our neighbor and supply The proof that faith is living. 6 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise To Father, Son, and Spirit, The God who saved us by his grace; All glory to his merit. O triune God in heav'n above, You have revealed your saving love; Your blessed name we hallow. Topics: Justification Languages: English Tune Title: ES IST DAS HEIL

Salvation unto Us Has Come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551 Hymnal: Christian Worship (1993) #390 (1993) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1 Salvation unto us has come By God's free grace and favor. Good works cannot avert our doom; They help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, Who did for all the world atone; He is the one Redeemer. 2 What God does in his law demand And none to him can render Brings wrath and woe on ev'ry hand For man, the vile offender. The law is but a mirror bright To bring the inbred sin to light That lurks within our nature. 4 Yet as the law must be fulfilled Or we must die despairing, Christ came and has God's anger stilled, Our human nature sharing. He has for us the law obeyed And thus the Father's vengeance stayed Which over us impended. 5 Since Christ has full atonement made And brought to us salvation, Each Christian therefore may be glad And build on this foundation. Your grace alone, dear Lord, I plead; Your death is now my life indeed, For you have paid my ransom. 6 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise To Father, Son, and Spirit, The God who saved us by his grace-- All glory to his merit!
