O Day of Rest and Gladness

Author: Christopher Wordsworth Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 811 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 1:3 Lyrics: 1 O day of rest and gladness, O day of joy and light, O balm of care and sadness, most beautiful, most bright! On thee the high and lowly before th'eternal throne sing "Holy, holy, holy" to the great Thee-in-One. 2 On thee at the creation, the light first had its birth, on thee for our salvation Christ rose from depths of earth; on thee our Lord victorious, the Spirit sent from heav'n, and thus on thee most glorious, a triple light was giv'n. 3 New graces ever gaining from this our day of rest, we reach the rest remaining to spirits of the blest. To Holy Ghost be praises, to Father and to Son; the church her voice upraises to thee, blest Three-in-One. Used With Tune: CRÜGER

As Man and Woman We Were Made

Author: Brian Wren Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 14 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 1:27 First Line: As man or woman we were made Lyrics: 1 As man and woman we were made that love be found and life begun, so praise the Lord who made us two, and praise the Lord when two are one: praise for the love that comes to life through child or parent, husband, wife. 2 Now Jesus lived and gave his love to make our life and loving new; so celebrate with him today and drink the joy he offers you, that makes the simple moment shine and changes water into wine. 3 And Jesus died to live again, so praise the love that, come what may, can bring the dawn and clear the skies, and waits to wipe all tears away; and let us hope for what shall be, believing where we cannot see. 4 Then spread the table, clear the hall, and celebrate till day is done; let peace go deep between us all and joy be shared by everyone; laugh and make merry with your friends, and praise the love that never ends! For Your Gift of God the Spirit

Author: Margaret Clarkson Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 10 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 1:2 Lyrics: 1 For your gift of God the Spirit, power to make our lives anew, pledge of life and hope of glory, Savior, we would worship you. Crowning gift of resurrection sent from your ascended throne, fullness of the very Godhead, come to make your life our own. 2 He, who in creation's dawning brooded on the lifeless deep, still across our nature's darkness moves to wake our souls from sleep, moves to stir, to draw, to quicken, thrusts us through with sense of sin; brings to birth and seals and fills us-- saving Advocate within. 3 He, himself the living Author, wakes to life the sacred Word; reads with us its holy pages and reveals our risen Lord. He it is who works within us, teaching rebel hearts to pray, he whose holy intercessions rise for us both night and day. 4 He, the mighty God, indwells us; his to strengthen, help, empower; his to overcome the Tempter-- ours to call in danger's hour. In his strength we dare to battle all the raging hosts of sin, and by him alone we conquer foes without and foes within. 5 Father, grant your Holy Spirit in our hearts may rule today, grieved not, quenched not, but unhindered, work in us his sovereign way. Fill us with your holy fullness, God the Father, Spirit, Son; in us, through us, then, forever, shall your perfect will be done.
