Glorious things are sung of Zion

Author: W. W. Phelps, 1792-1872 Appears in 16 hymnals Scripture: Acts 4:31-35 Lyrics: 1 Glorious things of sung of Zion, Enoch's city seen of old, Where the righteous, being perfect, Walked with God in streets of godl' Love and virtue, faith and wisdeom Grace and gifts were all combined; As himself each loved his neighbor, All were of one heart and mind. 2 Then the towers of Zion glittered Like the sun in yonder sky, And the wicked stood and trembled, Filled with wonder and surprise. Then their faith and works were prefect; Lo, they followed their great head! So the city went to heaven, And the world said, "Zion's fled!" 3 When the Lord returns with Zion, And they hear the watchmen cry, Then the saints will be united, And they'll all see eye to eye; Then they'll mingle with the angels, And the Lord will bless his own; Then the earth will be as heaven; They shall now as they are know. We All Are One in Mission

Author: Rusty Edwards, 1955- Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 13 hymnals Scripture: Acts 4:32-35 Lyrics: 1 We all are one in mission, we all are one in call, our varied gifts united by Christ, the Lord of all. A single, great commission compels us from above to plan and work together that all may know Christ's love. 2 We all are called for service to witness in God's name. Our ministries are different, our purpose is the same: to touch the lives others by God's surprising grace, so ev'ry folk and nation may feel God's warm embrace. 3 We all behold one vision, a stark reality: the author of salvation was nailed upon a tree. Yet resurrected Justice gives rise that we may share free reconciliation and hope amid despair. 4 Now let us be united and let our song be heard. Now let us be a vessel for God's redeeming Word. We all are one in mission, we all are one in call, our varied gifts united by Christ, the Lord of all. Used With Tune: AURELIA

Forgive Us, Lord, for Shallow Thankfulness

Author: William W. Reid, Sr., 1890-1983, alt. Meter: 10.10.10.10 Appears in 8 hymnals Scripture: Acts 4:32-37 Lyrics: 1 Forgive us, Lord, for shallow thankfulness, for dull content with warmth and sheltered care, for songs of praise for worldly wealthiness, while of your richer gifts we're unaware: 2 Teach us to thank you, Lord, for love and grace, for life and vision, for a purpose clear, for Christ, your Son, and for each human face that shows your message ever new and near. 3 Forgive us, Lord, for selfish thanks and praise, for words that speak at variance with deeds; forgive our thanks for walking pleasant ways, unmindful of a broken brother's needs: 4 Teach us, O Lord, true thankfulness divine, that gives as Christ gave, never counting cost, that knows no barrier of "yours" and "mine," assured that only what's withheld is lost. 5 Forgive us, Lord, for feast that knows not fast, for joy in things that meanwhile starve the soul, for walls and wars that hide Your mercies vast and blur our vision of the Kingdom goal: 6 Open our eyes to see your love's intent, to know with minds and hearts its depth and height; let thankful days in loving labor spent reflect the truly Christlike life and light. Topics: Stewardship Used With Tune: SURSUM CORDA

We Believe in God the Father

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 7 hymnals Scripture: Acts 4:23-37 Lyrics: 1 We believe in God the Father, God Almighty, by whose plan earth and heaven sprang into being, all created things began. We believe in Christ the Savior, Son of God in human frame, virgin born, the child of Mary, upon whom the Spirit came. 2 Christ, who on the cross forsaken, like a lamb to slaughter led, suffered under Pontius Pilate, he descended to the dead. We believe in Jesus risen, heaven’s king to rule and reign, to the Father’s side ascended till as judge he comes again. 3 We believe in God the Spirit; in one church, below, above; saints of God in one communion, one in holiness and love. So by faith, our sins forgiven, Christ our Savior, Lord and Friend, we shall rise with him in glory to the life that knows no end. Topics: Faith; Christian year--Trinity; Faith; Reaffirmation of faith; Service music--Creeds; Worship Used With Tune: LUX EOI
