O mother dear, Jerusalem

Author: D. Dickson Hymnal: The Hymnal, Revised and Enlarged, as adopted by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America in the year of our Lord 1892 #403a (1894) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Church Triumphant Lyrics: 1 O Mother dear, Jerusalem, When shall I come to Thee? When shall my sorrows have an end? Thy joys when shall I see? 2 O happy harbor of God's saints! O sweet and pleasant soil! In thee no sorrow can be found, Nor grief, nor care, nor toil. 3 No murky cloud o'er shadows thee, Nor gloom, nor darksome night; But every soul shines as the sun; For God Himself give light. 4 O sweet home, Jerusalem, Thy joys when shall I see? The King that sitteth on thy throne In his felicity? 5 Thy gardens and thy goodly walks Continually are green, Where grow such sweet and pleasant flowers As nowhere else are seen. 6 Right through thy streets, with silver sound, The living waters flow, And on the banks, on either side The trees of life doth grow. 7 Those trees for evermore bear fruit, And evermore do spring: There evermore the angels sit And evermore do sing. 8 Jerusalem, my happy home, Would God I were in Thee! Would God my woes were at an end, Thy joys that I might see! Amen. Languages: English Tune Title: [O mother dear, Jerusalem]

I heard a sound of voices

Author: Rev. Godfrey Thring Hymnal: The Hymnal, Revised and Enlarged, as adopted by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America in the year of our Lord 1892 #404 (1894) Meter: Irregular Topics: Church Triumphant Lyrics: 1 I heard a sound of voices Around the great white throne, With harpers harping on their harps To him that sat thereon: "Salvation, glory, honou!" I heard the song arise, As throu' the courts of heav'n it rolled In wondrous harmonies. 2 From every clime and kindred, And nations from afar, As serried ranks returning home In triumph from a war, I heard the saints upraising, The myriad hosts among, In praise of Him Who died and lives, Their one glad triumph-song. 3 I saw the holy city, The New Jerusalem, Come down from heaven, a bride adorned With jeweled diadem; The flood of crystal waters Flowed down the golden street; And nations brought their honors there, And laid them at her feet. 4 And there no sun was needed, Nor moon to shine by night, God's glory did enlighten all, The Lamb Himself the light; And there His servants serve Him, And, life's long battle o'er, Enthroned with Him, their Saviour, King, They reign for evermore. 5 O great and glorious vision! The Lamb upon His throne; O wondrous sight for man to see! The Saviour with His own: To drink the living waters And stand upon the shore, Where neither sorrow, sin, nor death Shall ever enter more. 6 O Lamb of God Who reignest! Thou Bright and Morning Star, Whose glory lightens that new earth Which now we see from far! O worthy Judge eternal! When Thou dost bid us come, Then open wide the gates of pearl, And call Thy servants home. Amen. Languages: English Tune Title: [I heard a sound of voices]

For thee, O dear, dear country

Author: Rev. J. M. Neale; Bernard of Cluny Hymnal: The Hymnal, Revised and Enlarged, as adopted by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America in the year of our Lord 1892 #407a (1894) Meter: 7.6 D Topics: Church Triumphant Lyrics: 1 For thee, O dear, dear country, Mine eyes their vigils keep; For very love, beholding Thy holy name, they weep. The mention of thy glory Is unction to the breast, And medicine in sickness, And love, and life, and rest. 2 O one, O only mansion! O Paradise of joy! Where tears are ever banished And smiles have no alloy; Thy loveliness oppresses All human thought and heart, And none, O Peace, O Sion Can sing thee as thou art. 3 With jaspers glow thy bulwarks, Thy streets with emeralds blaze; The sardius and the topaz Unite in Thee their rays; Thine ageless walls are bonded With amethyst unpriced; The saints build up its fabric, And the corner stone is Christ. 4 The cross is all thy splendor, The Crucified thy praise; His laud and benediction Thy ransomed people raise; Upon the Rock of Ages They build thy holy tower; Thine is the victor's laurel, And thine the golden dower. Amen. Languages: English Tune Title: [For thee, O dear, dear country]

Jerusalem, the golden!

Author: Bernard of Cluny; J. M. Neale Hymnal: The Hymnal, Revised and Enlarged, as adopted by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America in the year of our Lord 1892 #408a (1894) Meter: 7.6 D Topics: Church Triumphant Lyrics: 1 Jerusalem, the golden! With milk and honey blest; Beneath thy contemplation Sink heart and voice opprest. I know not, oh, I know not What joys await us there! What radiancy of glory! What bliss beyond compare! 2 They stand, those halls of Sion, All jubilant with song, And bright with many an angel, And all the martyr throng. The Prince is ever in them, The daylight is serene; The pastures of the blessèd Are decked in glorious sheen. 3 There is the throne of David; And there, from care released, The song of them that triumph, The shout of them that feast; And they, who with their Leader Have conquered in the fight, Forever and forever Are clad in robes of white. 4 O sweet and blesséd country, The Home of God's elect! O sweet and blesséd country, That eager hearts expect! Jesu, in mercy bring us To that dear land of rest; Who art, with God the Father, And Spirit, ever blest. Amen.
