If Christ had not been raised from death

Author: Christopher Idle (b. 1938) Hymnal: Ancient and Modern #204 (2013) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Topics: Assurance; Children and All-Age Worship; Church nature of; Church Year Easter; Death and Bereavement; Easter; Faith; Forgiveness; Future hope; Jesus Names and images for; The Second Sunday of Easter Year C; The Third Sunday before Advent Year C; The Third Sunday of Easter Year B; Funerals and The Departed Lyrics: 1 If Christ had not been raised from death our faith would be in vain, our preaching but a waste of breath, our sin and guilt remain. But now the Lord is risen indeed; he rules in earth and heaven: his gospel meets a world of need — in Christ we are forgiven. 2 If Christ still lay within the tomb then death would be the end, and we should face our final doom with neither guide nor friend. But now the Saviour is raised up, so when a Christian dies we mourn, yet look to God in hope — in Christ the saints arise! 3 If Christ had not been truly raised his Church would live a lie; his name should nevermore be praised, his words deserve to die. But now our great Redeemer lives; through him we are restored: his word endures, his Church revives in Christ, our risen Lord. Lift Your Glad Voices

Author: Henry Ware Jr. Hymnal: Voices Together #340 (2020) Meter: 10.11.11.11.12.11.10.11 Topics: Death and Eternal Life; Funeral / Memorial Service; Joy; Suffering First Line: Lift your glad voices in triumph on high Lyrics: 1 Lift your glad voices in triumph on high, for Jesus has risen and we shall not die. Vain were the terrors that gathered around him, and short the dominion of death and the grave. He burst from the fetters of evil that bound him, resplendent in glory, to live and to save. Loud was the chorus of angels on high, the Savior has risen, and we shall not die. 2 Glory to God, in full anthems of joy; the being God gave us, death cannot destroy. Sad were the life we may part with tomorrow, if tears were our birthright and death were our end. But Jesus has cheered the deep valley of sorrow, and bade us, immortal, to heaven ascend. Lift then your voices in triumph on high, for Jesus has risen, and we shall not die. Scripture: Matthew 28:1-10 Tune Title: RESURRECTION
