Tomorrow Christ is coming

Author: Fred Kaan, 1929- Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 7 hymnals Scripture: John 6:35 Lyrics: 1 Tomorrow Christ is coming, as yesterday he came; a child is born this moment; we do not know its name. The world is full of darkness: again there is no room; the symbols of existence are stable, cross and tomb. 2 Tomorrow will be Christmas, the feast of love divine, but, for the nameless millions, the star will never shine. Still is the census taken, with people on the move; new infants born in stables are crying out for love. 3 There will be no tomorrows for many a baby born; Good Friday falls on Christmas when life is sown as corn, but Jesus Christ is risen and comes again in bread to still our deepest hunger and raise us from the dead. 4 Our Lord becomes incarnate in every human birth. Created in God's image, we must make peace on earth. God will fulfil love's purpose, and this shall be the sign: we shall find Christ among us as woman, child or man. Topics: Church Year Advent; Lament; Peace; Social Concerns / Social Justice; Suffering Used With Tune: LITTLE BADDOW

Lord Jesus Christ, Life-Giving Bread

Author: Johann Rist, 1607-67; Arthur T. Russell, 1806-74 Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Appears in 6 hymnals Scripture: John 6:33-35 Lyrics: 1 Lord Jesus Christ, life-giving Bread, May I in grace possess You. Let me with holy food be fed, In hunger I address You. Prepare me well for You, O Lord, And, humbly by my prayer implored, Give me Your grace and mercy. 2 To pastures green, Lord, safely guide, To restful waters lead me; Your table well for me provide, Your wounded hand now feed me. Though weary, sinful, sick, and weak, Refuge in You alone I seek, To share Your cup of healing. 3 O bread of heav'n, my soul's delight, For full and free remission I come with prayer before Your sight In sorrow and contrition. Your rightousness, Lord, cover me That I receive You worthily, Assured of Your full pardon. 4 I do not merit favor, Lord, My weight of sin would break me; In all my guilty heart's discord, O Lord, do not forsake me. In my distress this comforts me That You receive me graciously, O Christ, my Lord of mercy! Topics: The Lord's Supper Used With Tune: HERR, WIE DU WILLST
