How Shall I Meet My Saviour?

Author: Arthur Tozer Russell, 1806-1874; Paul Gerhardt, 1607-1676 Hymnal: Hymnal and Liturgies of the Moravian Church #60 (1969) Lyrics: 1 How shall I meet my Savior? How shall I welcome Thee? What manner of behavior Is now required of me? I wait of Thy salvation; Grant me Thy Spirit’s light; Thus will my preparation Be pleasing in Thy sight. 2 Love caused Thine incarnation; Love brought Thee down to me; Thy thirst for my salvation Procured my liberty; O love beyond all telling, That led Thee to embrace, In love all love excelling, Our lost and fallen race. 3 Rejoice, then, ye sad-hearted, Who sit in deepest gloom, Who mourn o’er joys departed, And tremble at your doom; He Who alone can cheer you Is standing at the door; He brings His pity near you And bids you weep no more. Hail to the Lord's Anointed

Author: James Montgomery Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns to the Living God #72 (2023) Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.6.7.6 Lyrics: 1 Hail to the Lord's anointed, great David's greater Son! Hail, in the time appointed, His reign on earth begun! He comes to break oppression, to set the captive free, to take away transgression, and rule in equity. 2 He comes with comfort speedy to those who suffer wrong; to help the poor and needy, and bid the weak be strong; to give them songs for sighing, their darkness turn to light, whose souls, condemned and dying, are precious in His sight. 3 He shall come down like showers upon the fruitful earth; and love, joy, hope, like flowers, spring in His path to birth; before Him on the mountains shall peace, the herald, go; and righteousness, in fountains, from hill to valley flow. 4 Arabia's desert ranger to Him shall bow the knee, the Ethiopian stranger is glory come to see; with off'rings of devotion, ships from the isles shall meet, to pour the wealth of ocean in tribute at His feet. 5 Kings shall fall down before Him, and gold and incense bring, all nations shall adore Him, His praise all people sing; for He shall have dominion o'er river, sea, and shore, far as the eagle's pinion or dove's light wing can soar. 6 For Him shall prayer unceasing, and daily vows ascend; His kingdom still increasing, a kingdom without end; the mountain dews shall nourish a seed in weakness sown, whose fruit shall spread and flourish, and shake like Lebanon. 7 O'er every foe victorious, He on His throne shall rest, from age to age more glorious, all-blessing and all-blessed; the tide of time shall never His covenant remove; His name shall stand forever– that name to us is Love. O Father, You Are Sovereign

Author: Margaret Clarkson Hymnal: Trinity Hymnal (Rev. ed.) #75 (1990) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Lyrics: 1 O Father, you are sovereign in all the worlds you made; your mighty word was spoken and light and life obeyed. Your voice commands the seasons and bounds the ocean’s shore, sets stars within their courses and stills the tempests’ roar. 2 O Father, you are sovereign in all affairs of man; no pow'rs of death or darkness can thwart Your perfect plan. All chance and change transcending, supreme in time and space, you hold your trusting children secure in your embrace. 3 O Father, you are sovereign the Lord of human pain, transmuting earthly sorrows to gold of heav'nly gain. All evil over-ruling, as none but Conqu'ror could, your love pursues its purpose — our souls’ eternal good. 4 O Father, you are sovereign! We see you dimly now, but soon before your triumph earth’s every knee shall bow. With this glad hope before us our faith springs up anew: our sovereign Lord and Savior, we trust and worship you!
