1715 - 1797 Person Name: Johann Friedrich Doles, 1715-1797 Composer of "DA CHRISTUS GEBOREN WAR" in The Hymn Book of the Anglican Church of Canada and the United Church of Canada Born: April 23, 1715, Steinbach-Hallenberg, Thuringia. Died: February 8, 1797, Leipzig, Germany. Doles is remembered as a composer of chamber and sacred music. While a student at the University of Leipzig, he directed the city’s Grosses Konzert (later known as the Gewandhaus Orchestra). 1872 - 1946 Author of "Hail, glorious apostle, Saint Basil the Great" Dollard, James B. (Kilkenney, Ireland, August 30, 1872--April 28, 1946, Toronto, Ontario). Roman Catholic. Studied at Kilkenney Classical Academy and the Grand Seminaire, Montreal; ordained, December 20, 1896. Pastorates in Toronto, 1897-1901, 1910-1946; Uptergrove, Ontario, Ontario, 1901-1910. Using the pen-name Slieve-na-Mon, he published in Catholic magazines much verse with an Irish flavor, of which some was issued in book form by McClelland and Stewart, Toronto, in 1917.
