I cannot tell why he, whom angels worship

Author: William Young Fullerton, 1857-1932 Meter: 11.10.11.10 D Appears in 33 hymnals Scripture: Luke 15:3-7 Lyrics: 1 I cannot tell why he, whom angels worship, should set his love upon the sons of men, or why, as Shepherd, he should seek the wanderers, to bring them back, they know not how or when. But this I know, that he was born of Mary when Bethl'em's manger was his only home, and that he lived at Nazareth and laboured, and so the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is come. 2 I cannot tell how silently he suffered, as with his peace he graced this place of tears, or how his heart upon the cross was broken, the crown of pain to three and thirty years. But this I know, he heals the broken-hearted and stays our sin and calms our lurking fear and lifts the burden from the heavy laden; for still the Saviour, Saviour of the world is here. 3 I cannot tell how he will win the nations, how he will claim his earthly heritage, how satisfy the needs and aspirations of east and west, of sinner and of sage. But this I know, all flesh shall see his glory, and he shall reap the harvest he has sown, and some glad day his sun will shine in splendour when he the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is known. 4 I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship, when at his bidding every storm is stilled, or who can say how great the jubilation when every heart with love and joy is filled. But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture, and myriad myriad human voices sing, and earth to heav'n, and heav'n to earth, will answer, 'at last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!' Jesus Sinners Doth Receive

Author: Erdmann Neumeister Meter: 7.8.7.8.7.7 Appears in 31 hymnals Scripture: Luke 15:2 Lyrics: 1 Jesus sinners doth receive; Oh, may all this saying ponder Who in sin's delusions live And from God and heaven wander! Here is hope for all who grieve-- Jesus sinners doth receive. 2 We deserve but grief and shame, Yet His words, rich grace revealing, Pardon, peace, and life proclaim. Here their ills have perfect healing Who with humble hearts believe-- Jesus sinners doth receive. 3 Sheep that from the fold did stray No true shepherd e'er forsaketh; Weary souls that lost their way Christ, the Shepherd, gently taketh In His arms that they may live-- Jesus sinners doth receive. 4 Come, ye sinners, one and all, Come, accept His invitation; Come, obey His gracious call, Come and take His free salvation! Firmly in these words believe: Jesus sinners doth receive. 5 I, a sinner, come to Thee With a penitent confession; Savior, mercy show to me Grant for all my sins remission. Let these words my soul relieve: Jesus sinners doth receive. 6 Oh, how blest it is to know: Were as scarlet my transgression, It shall be as white as snow By Thy blood and bitter Passion; For these words I now believe: Jesus sinners doth receive. 7 Now my conscience is at peace, From the Law I stand acquitted; Christ hath purchased my release And my every sin remitted. Naught remains my soul to grieve-- Jesus sinners doth receive. 8 Jesus sinners doth receive. Also I have been forgiven; And when I this earth must leave, I shall find an open heaven. Dying, still to Him I cleave-- Jesus sinners doth receive. Amen. Topics: Confession and Absolution Used With Tune: MEINEN JESUM LASS' ICH NICHT Text Sources: Tr. composite
