Hymnal Number: 11 Translator of "Our Father God, Your Name" in Worship Together Ernest A. Payne is General Secretary of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and Ireland with offices in London. He is also active in the Psalms and Hymns Trust which is the publication society of the British Baptists. He was a member of the Editorial Committee for the Baptist Hymn Book of 1962. He was also a member of the committee which prepared The Companion for this hymnal. He is an active member of the Hymn Society of Great Britain and Ireland. His translation of one of the hymns in the Anabaptist Ausbund of the 16th Century appears in the Baptist Hymn Book, entitled "Our Father God, thy name we praise." He is the author of numerous books including the "Free Church Tradition in the Life of England" and the "Fellowship of Believers". He has held many important positions in British church life including service as moderator of the Free Church Federal Council 1958-59. Esther Bergen

1921 - 2005 Person Name: Esther C. Bergen Hymnal Number: 30 Translator of "God, the Lord, is here" in Worship Together Esther Bergen was born on June 18, 1921 in Morden, Manitoba, Canada. She was the daughter of a Mennonite minister and graduated from the Mennonite College Institute in Gretna, Manitoba. After teaching in several rural schools, she attended the Mennonite Brethren Bible College in Winnipeg. She taught music at the Mennonite Brethren Bible College, and served as Dean and Registrar at the Canadian Mennonite Bible College. She also worked as a missionary in Mexico with her husband, Menno Bergen (1956-68). She translated some 150 hymns, and composed several hymn tunes. She was a teacher, musician, poet, translator, church worker, wife, and mother. She died in on March 1, 2005 in Winnepeg. [Sources: Hustad, Donald Paul.
