When he the wand'rer finds; Up in his arms he takes his charge, And to his shoulder binds. 3 Homeward he hastes to tell his joys, And make his bliss complete: The neighbours hear the news, and all The joyful shepherd greet. 4 Yet how much greater is the joy When but one sinner turns; When the poor wretch with broken heart, His sins and errors mourns. 5 Pleas'd with the news, the saints below, In songs their tongues employ; Beyond the skies, the tidings go, And Heaven is fill'd with joy. 6 Well-pleas'd the Father sees and hears The conscious sinner weep; Jesus receives him in his arms, And owns him for his sheep. 7 Nor angels can their joys contain, But kindle with new fire: "A wandering sheep's return'd," they sing, And strike the sounding lyre. Spencer Walton Appears in 85 hymnals Scripture: Luke 15:4-10 Refrain First Line: O the love that sought me Lyrics: 1 In tenderness He sought me, Weary and sick with sin, And on His shoulders brought me Back to His fold again. While angels in His presence sang Until the courts of heaven rang. Chorus: O the love that sought me! O the blood that bought me! O the grace that brought me to the fold, Wondrous grace that brought me to the fold! 2 He washed the bleeding sin wounds And poured in oil and wine; He whispered to assure me, “I’ve found thee, thou art Mine;” I never heard a sweeter voice; It made my aching heart rejoice! (Chorus) 3 He pointed to the nail prints, For me His blood was shed, A mocking crown so thorny Was placed upon His head: I wondered what He saw in me To suffer such deep agony. (Chorus) 4 I’m sitting in His presence, The sunshine of His face, While with adoring wonder His blessings I retrace: It seems as if eternal days Are far too short to sound His praise. (Chorus) 5 So while the hours are passing, All now is perfect rest; I’m waiting for the morning, The brightest and the best, When He will call us to His side, To be with Him, His spotless bride. I Cannot Tell

Author: William Y. Fullerton Meter: 11.10.11.10 D Appears in 33 hymnals Scripture: Luke 15:5-6 First Line: I cannot tell why he whom angels worship Lyrics: 1 I cannot tell why he whom angels worship should come in flesh as prophets long foretold, or why the Shepherd longs to save the wanderers and bring them back rejoicing to the fold. But this I know, that he was born of Mary when Bethlehem's manger was his only home, and that he lived at Nazareth and labored, and so the promised Savior of the world is come. 2 I cannot tell how silently he suffered as with his peace he graced this place of tears, or how his heart upon the cross was broken, the crown of pain to three and thirty years. But this I know, he heals the broken-hearted, and stays our sin, and calms our lurking fear, and lifts the burden from the heavy laden, for still the suffering Savior of the world is here. 3 I cannot tell how he will win the nations, how he will claim his earthly heritage, how satisfy the needs and aspirations of east and west, of sinner and of sage. But this I know, all flesh shall see his glory, and he shall reap the harvest he has sown, and some glad day his sun shall shine in splendor, when he, the risen Savior of the world, is known. 4 I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship when at his bidding, every storm is stilled, or who can say how great the jubilation when all our hearts with love for him are filled. But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture, and countless voices then will join to sing, and earth to heaven, and heaven to earth will answer: "At last the living Savior of the world is King!" Topics: Jesus Christ Physician; Evangelism; Jesus Christ Birth; Jesus Christ Earthly Life and Ministry; Jesus Christ Incarnation; Jesus Christ King; Jesus Christ Physician; Jesus Christ Return (Coming in Glory); Jesus Christ Savior; Jesus Christ Suffering; Jesus Christ Final Victory; Praise of Jesus Christ Used With Tune: LONDONDERRY AIR
