The Blackwood Brothers Quartet was formed in 1944 with brothers Roy, Doyle, James and Roy's son R. W. After Roy and Doyle retired and R. W. died in an airplane crash, James formed a new group of singers. After James passed away in 2002, the quartet was led by his sons, Jimmy and Billy. Jimmy has since retired, and Billy now leads the group.
