173. Work for Little Servants

1 In the service of the Savior,
There is much that we can do,
For we read “a child shall lead them,”
In the Bible; old and true.
Eyes and ears are faithful helpers
Ev’ry child has at command,
They will work, at slightest bidding,
Or, will idly waiting stand.

2 If we pray each morn at waking,
“Lord, what shall I do today?”
God will help each little servant,
Willingly to go his way.
Eyes will see where help is needed,
Hands will lend their ready aid;
Feet will run to do love’s errand,
Lips will leave harsh words unsaid.

3 When at night we little children
Count what God has helped us do,
All will thank him for his goodness,
And will ask his help anew.
Eyes to see and ears to listen;
Heedful of divine command;
Lips and hands and feet make answer,
Unto perfect love’s demand.
