16. When We Are Blind

When we are blind to the judgment of love,
and tempted to stray from the way of the dove,
God, show us, through prophets, your vision for peace:
"Let justice prevail, that warfare may cease."

When we are deaf to your holy command,
unwilling to listen to what you demand,
God, give us in Jesus new orders for peace:
"Let justice prevail, that warfare may cease."

When we are lame with excuses, and fear
enfeebles our power to make your will clear,
God, send your bold Spirit with mandates for peace:
"Let justice prevail, that warfare may cease."

When we are silent, reluctant to speak
for those who are hungry, or homeless, or weak,
God, loosen our tongues to declare for your peace:
"Let justice prevail, that warfare may cease."
