208. Great, Unchanged One

1 The King of Love came down to earth
From heav’n’s resplendent throne,
And here became “the Son of Man,”
That you He might atone.
He humbled His High Majesty
That you He might reprieve;
And e’en became a little Child
That you might Him receive.

Refrain:
Will you receive Him?
Will you believe Him?
Jesus, the Father’s own well-belov’d Son;
Will you receive Him?
Will you believe Him?
Great, everlasting, unchangeable One.

2 The King of Love renounced His reign,
And lived the life of men,
To preach His gospel to the poor,
And make them whole again.
He homeless wandered, tired and sore,
To comfort those that grieve;
Yet lived a perfect life on earth
That Him you might receive. [Refrain]

3 The King of Love His life laid down
That you might live alway;
He suffered as your Sacrifice;
He calls to you today.
He has the only way of peace,
He is your God and Friend;
You may in Him find peace and rest
If you on Him depend. [Refrain]
