CCLXXXIII. In boundless mercy, gracious Lord, appear

1 In boundless mercy, gracious Lord, appear,
Darkness dispel, the humble mourner cheer;
Vain thoughts remove, melt down this flinty heart;
Cause every soul to choose the better part.

2 Thy presence fills the universal space;
Thy grace appears to all the fallen race.
O! visit us with light and life divine;
Fill every soul, for every soul is thine.

3 Thy blessed Jesus is my Lord, my love;
He is my King, from him I would not move:
Away then, all ye objects that divert,
Nor seek to draw from my dear Lord my heart.

4 That uncreated beauty which hath gain'd
My ravish'd heart, hath all your glory claim'd;
His loveliness my soul hath prepossess'd
And left no room for any other guest.
