127. Es ist ein' Ros entsprungen (Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming)

1 Lo, how a Rose, e'er blooming
from tender stem has sprung!
Of Jesse's lineage coming
as saints of old have sung.
It came a floweret bright,
amid the cold of winter
when half spent was the night.

2 Isaiah had foretold it,
the Rose I have in mind,
With Mary we behold it,
the Virgin Mother kind.
To show God's love aright,
she bore for us a Savior,
when half spent was the night.

German:
Es ist ein' Ros entsprungen
aus einer Wurzel zart,
wie uns die Alten sungen:
von Jesse kam die Art
und hat ein Blümlein bracht
mitten im kalten Winter
wohl zu der halben Nacht.
