596. What Splendid Rays of Truth and Grace

1 What splendid rays of truth and grace,
all other light excelling!
This I know when he in love
makes my heart his dwelling!

2 He blesses me so sensibly
that, though I’m poor and lowly,
yet in him I can rejoice
as my Savior holy.

3 Had I the grace to seek His face
in any trying hour!
Help from none will he withhold
who implores his power.

4 Therefore I pray, while here I stay
and look to him with yearning:
fixed in him may I abide,
kept from ever turning.
