97. Nature's freedom

1 Everywhere in Nature,
Everything is free,
And her every creature,
Lives in liberty.
Streamlet on the mountain,
Wind that rides the plain,
Gushing spring and fountain,
Driving cloud and rain.

2 And I know the reason,
Why they all are free,
Bud and bloom in season,
Bird and beast and tree.
'Tis because their nature
Each one follows true.
Every thing and creature
Does what it should do.

3 Lesson plain and gentle
Hide within my breast,
On me Nature's mantle
Joyfully shall rest;
Faithful to my duty,
My true nature's end,
In me truth and beauty
Shall with freedom blend.
