61. The golden city

1 Say, have you read in the story olden,
Of the city fair that waits?
Jasper the walls, and the streets are golden,
And of purest pearl the gates.

Chorus:
There we shall dwell with the Lord forever,
Going out no more.
There shall we go, when we cross the river;
Over on the other shore.

2 Say, have you heard of the river flowing?
Clear as crystal is its tide.
Forth from the throne are its waters going;
Shall we roam that stream beside? [Chorus]

3 Say, have you read, in that wondrous story,
How no moon nor sun need they?
For it is lightened with God's own glory;
Shall we see that endless day? [Chorus]
