Text: | How Shall the Young Secure Their Hearts |
Author: | Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 |
Tune: | ST. PETER |
Composer: | Alexander R. Reinagle, 1799-1877 |
1 How shall the young secure their hearts
And guard their lives from sin?
Your Word the choicest rules imparts
To keep the conscience clean.
2 It's like the sun, a heav'nly light
That guides us all the day,
And through the dangers of the night
Its lamp shall lead our way.
3 The starry heav'ns your rule obey,
The earth maintains its place;
And these your servants night and day
Your skill and pow'r express.
4 But still your Law and Gospel, Lord,
Have lessons more divine;
Earth is not firm as is your Word,
No stars so nobly shine.
5 Your Word is everlasting truth.
How pure its every page!
That holy book will guide our youth
And well support our age.
