244. Open the Door

1 List! there's a stranger knocking at the door!
Gently He knocks, hath often knocked before:
Long He hath waited, He is waiting still;
Open to the stranger, "whosoever will."

Refrain:
Open the door,
Open the door,
Still He is waiting,
Open wide the door.

2 Who is this stranger, can He be a friend?
Why is He waiting why so condescend?
See! 'tis your Saviour and from ev'ry strain
Waits He to cleanse you– shall He knock in vain? [Refrain]

3 Now hear Him pleading, "For you I have died,
For your redemption I was crucified;"
Why will you grieve Him, His entreaties spurn?
While He is pleading, wanderer, return! [Refrain]

4 Whoever heareth, open wide the door;
He waits to give you life forevermore?
Patiently waiting, hear Him calling still–
Full, free Salvation! Whosoever will! [Refrain]

5 Jesus, my Saviour, long my heart has been
Closed 'gainst thy pleadings, given up to sin;
Now unto Thee the door I open wide;
Come, blessed Saviour, in my heart abide! [Refrain]
