12309. The Prodigal

1 The wonderful love the father bestowed
On him who returned from worldly embrace,
Doth plainly foreshow how Christ will receive
The penitent soul that trusts in His grace.

Refrain:
Oh, prodigal, turn from folly and vice,
Oh, wander no more in sorrow and shame;
Repent of your sins, arise and return,
The Father awaits the lost to reclaim.

2 Away from your home and kindness so dear,
You long have remained ’mid hunger and cold;
There’s shelter and bread enough, and to spare,
Come hasten away, and enter the fold. [Refrain]

3 Oh, come and enjoy the bountiful feast,
The pardon and love, the mercy and grace;
Thro’ Jesus alone, who died to redeem
The fallen and lost, the sin-ruined race. [Refrain]
