10314. Peace I Leave With You

1 He was despisèd, was poor, and an outcast;
He had no riches to leave to His own;
And yet He bequeathed us a priceless possession,
Gift that all mortals are yearning to own.

Refrain:
Peace I give unto thee, My peace I leave with thee;
Not as the world, give I unto thee;
O priceless legacy! That there should be for thee
Peace overflowing thy soul.

2 Is your back bending ’neath poverty’s burden?
Christ’s precious gift means so much more than wealth;
If you are afflicted with sickness and suffering,
List to His promise—it giveth you health. [Refrain]

3 Freely to all is this legacy given,
All may find peace, tho’ the care-billows roll;
How freely it’s offered! The only condition,
God must be given His way with your soul. [Refrain]
