Text: | Christ’s Sacrifice |
Author: | Mrs. E. C. Ellsworth |
Tune: | [Christ laid a golden scepter down] |
Composer: | J. H. Tenney |
1 Christ laid a golden scepter down,
And left a vast domain,
To purchase sinners such as we,
And give to us a name.
Refrain:
Oh, why for sinners did He this?
Oh, why this sacrifice?
‘Twas love, yes, love for you and me,
Such love as never dies.
2 He laid aside a royal robe,
Put on a beggar’s dress,
That we forever might be cloth’d
In His own righteousness. [Refrain]
3 He own’d the flocks on yonder hills,
Yet knew the sorest need
That we, the sheep who hear His voice,
In pastures green might feet. [Refrain]
